Hello William,
You may want to make this more specific - do you mean in the area local to where you live or a specific field of interest?
The more details you give, the more people can help with their responses.
Cheers!

Hello, William !
Employment Services is very extensive and if you need to learn how to navigate employment, you are fortunate because there are programs in Nassau County, Long Island where you live.
By joining an employment services program you will gain much knowledge (not "tips") and training on how to go about finding a job and all the things that go along with it. Some of the places you can contact for employment services in your county are The Economic Opportunity Commission of Nassau County, Inc. for their Summer Youth Employment Program, Nassau County's Job Development Center, and the Hempstead Works Career Center through The Town of Hempstead Department of Occupational Resources. It is recommended that you can read some jobs at the websites Snagajob and SimplyHired. You didn't mention your age so keep in mind that age requirements and/or restrictions may come into play.
If you haven't yet worked, be sure to apply for jobs that you can do. Usually food service, retail and supermarkets are good places to start. They will train you on the job.
It may be a good idea to start doing some volunteer work at a place that interests you. Either at a social or community services agency or through The Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums. Any place that you have an interest in would be good to volunteer at to become more familiar with the way things are run at a job as well as learn how to independently know where and how to find out about job openings that are available.
I hope this helps to start you out on learning more about what goes into employment. Best wishes to you in all you do !

Tips for Getting a Job in Hewlett, New York
Here are some strategies to help you land a job more easily in the area:
Define what you want
Think about what kind of job you want (retail, health care, beauty, restaurant, etc.), your preferred hours, whether you want full‑ or part‑time, and how far you're willing to commute.
Update your resume & references
Even for entry roles, having a clear resume helps. If you’ve worked similar roles before, list your responsibilities and any achievements. Good references (from teachers, past jobs, or community work) go a long way.
Use local job boards & sources
Indeed, LinkedIn, JOB TODAY, and Monster for local listings.
School district sites (like Hewlett‑Woodmere Public Schools) often post admin, substitute, and support roles.
Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools
Care.com and Sittercity for caregiving/babysitting / companion roles.
Network & check locally
Sometimes stores, salons, restaurants post “help wanted” signs in windows, or accept resumes directly in person.
Talk to people you know—friends, family, teachers—about openings you might not see online.
Tailor your applications
For each job you apply to, tweak your resume or cover letter to show why you’re a good fit. Mention any experience with similar work (customer service, caregiving, handling money, etc.).
Prepare for interviews & dress well
Even for jobs like serving or retail, first impressions matter. Be on time, polite, and show you’re reliable. Bring a copy of your resume in case they want it.
Follow up
If you don’t hear back in a week, it’s OK to call or drop by (if appropriate) to check on your application. Shows you’re really interested.
Consider training / certification
For example, if you’re thinking of health or caregiving jobs, having a CPR or CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certificate could help. Same for roles that require handling money (POS systems) or beauty (cosmetology).
