How can I tell if a scholarship is worth the time or if a scholarship is suspicious? ?

Hi! I only started to look through scholarships recently, but I've been having a hard time telling which scholarship will help me the most. I already know that there are websites such as Fastweb or Scholarshop360 that can help me find them, however many of the scholarships are "no-essay" based such as Niche or Sallie. Given how randomized the awards are, I'm not even sure if I should associate myself with them.

I think the best advice is this (and is true for everything!): if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Not all scholarships require essays, especially if they are lesser known, but see if you can validate that they appear in reputable lists like Bold.org or The Princeton Review or CollegeBoard. And make sure to ask yourself:

1. What are they promising you?
2. What kind of information are they asking for? Is any of it personal beyond your name, school, etc?

Kristy-Lyn recommends the following next steps:

For review, Bold.org: https://bold.org/scholarships/
For review, The Princeton Review: https://www.princetonreview.com/college-advice/finding-college-scholarships
For review, CollegeBoard: https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/scholarship-search
