Hi Guillermo,
First year of college is the best time to meet people and make new friends! Everybody in your year is also new and looking for new friends!
You'll certainly have some kind of orientation/welcome function to the school and/or to your department and program. Find out who is sitting next to you, what they major in and where they are staying. There might be welcome parties or other events on campus too. Go and meet people.
Are you staying in residence, maybe even sharing with a roommate? Find out who your housemates are. Ask someone of they want to join you for lunch/dinner/coffee and what their hobbies/interests are.
There will be things to organize, classes to sign up for, finding out where things are on campus. Ask people in your res/in your program etc for information.
There are clubs and events on campus. Find something you are interested in and join a club or sign up for a sport.
You'll be sitting next to someone in lectures. Most people sit in roughly the same spot every lecture. If you have labs or seminars you'll probably pair up with someone. Get to know them outside of class.
Once you know a few people, the best way to learn but also to form friendships and create a support network is to form a study group. Limit it to maybe 3 or 4 people and meet weekly.
I hope this helps! All the best to you!

Good morning!
One of the best ways I found to connect with people in college was by forming study groups with classmates. Setting up group chats, meeting regularly, and sharing notes and ideas made a big difference. I also recommend joining clubs and attending campus events—they’re great opportunities to meet new people and build lasting friendships.
