Kimberly’s Answer

1. I spent 4 years as a military missile technician and 20 years as a law enforcement officer.

2. My best friend’s dad was a police officer, and I loved hearing about his day.

3. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Forensic Psychology and a Master’s in Public Administration.

4. My degree in criminal justice helped me understand the constitution and laws, which are important for every level of law enforcement. But I learned most of the job from the police academy and hands-on experience.

5. I love knowing I made someone's day better just by because I showed up. Every day brings something new.

6. I wish the public supported police more and realized there are more good officers than bad ones.

7. Interviewing is a skill you have to practice for years to get good at. It’s about talking to people in a productive and patient way.

8. I answer questions and help people with problems that come up during the day, whether it’s about crime, violence, traffic, or fights.

9. Stay positive. Long-time police officers can get negative because of the tough situations they face. Find something that makes you happy outside of work and don’t bring the job home. It's important to relax and see the good in people.
