Martha’s Answer

Hi Aryana - this is an excellent question.
First, I have heard of Early Action and Early Decision as types of application programs. Sometimes colleges have other designations, such as Early Decision II, but Early Acceptance seems to be a general term.
The acceptance rates for Early Action have been slightly higher than in Regular Decision and, if you get in, you know sooner. Also, if you get in under Early Action, you are not required to go there. These are advantages, but the deadline for most Early Action applications has passed (generally November 1st or November 15th.) Some schools use December 1st, however, so check your schools.
The deadline for most Early Decision schools for Fall 2026 is either November 1st or November 15th, but again, your schools may be different. For Early Decision (ED), you must go to that school is you are admitted. So do not apply ED unless you are sure you want to go there.
Please see the links below for further information. Wishing you good luck!
