Should I go for a minor or a concentration?

I start at ETSU this upcoming fall for Digital Media, but I still am pretty undecided on what I want to do for work. I know what I think I want to do, but I don't know for certain. If I'm undecided, would it be a better idea to look at a major such as Marketing or go for one of the Digital Media specific concentrations? Which would be better for trying to find a job after graduation?

Hi Isabella,

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) offers a Bachelor of Science in Digital Media with possible concentrations in digital animation, digital game design, digital visualization and visual effects. That offers a lot of possible career paths including e.g. video editor, game designer, social media specialist or web developer.

A marketing major can also lead you to a variety of career options, e.g. public relations specialist, market research specialist, brand strategist, digital marketing strategist or social media manager.

Which program will suit you better is a decision only you can make. And nobody can tell you which major will have the better career opportunities 4 years or more from now. If you are interested in both, there could be a sweet spot where you could use your digital media degree in marketing. You could also do a marketing degree and a minor in digital media but, of course, you won't get the same depth in your technical degree in that case. Either way, it will be up to you to develop the necessary technical skills, work on a portfolio and network in the industry to create an opening for yourself.

I hope this helps! All the best to you!
