G. Mark’s Answer

First remember that a "teacher" is not a title limited to folks who work under the auspices of the Board of Education. These folks are held under the scrutiny of a host of government requirements to ensure that they meet the requirements of what we deem necessary for folks to instruct our children. There are folks, like myself, who have performed in many other professional capacities and been able to demonstrate ability to educate others in those capacities.

Now, after saying all that stuff, let's get to practical considerations for the job at hand. A teacher generally needs to have proven themselves the ability to confer knowledge to the students. Folks who are very knowledgeable and accomplished but not so great in sharing this knowledge with others are just not going to be good teachers.

So to answer your original question, "What education.." the response is twofold. First, what is required to be an accredited teacher according to law, that would be at least a four-year degree from an accredited university in education and a teaching certificate. Beyond that, a background that indicates that you have sufficient knowledge to share. And this is where all educators can share what they know.
