Hi Chris!

It's awesome that you know what you're interested in! My first piece of advice would be to research which schools have the best programs for those specific majors. From a practical perspective, many schools have business programs, and sports medicine might be more rare; because of this, you might want to start by looking at schools with strong sports medicine programs first, then narrow down your list from where.

Secondly, you can always take on a minor! For example, if you're more interested in sports medicine, you can take that on as your major, and minor in business. That will help you learn about both interests, as well as gain a unique perspective through both programs. Then, if you decide you like one more than the other, you're usually free to switch into the other.

Overall, I would look for schools with strong programs in those interests, and keep learning more and more about them!

Hi, Chris,

Since you've stated that you are not 100% sure of what to major in between Sports Medicine or Business, you will first have to explore careers, know which actual career you want, major in that and obtain your degree that will prepare and qualify you for that particular chosen career.

Business and Sports Medicine are completely different so perhaps you can think of what kind of lifestyle you'd want for your career. Let's take Business first to explore a little. In Business, there are many ways you can proceed with a career. Some careers for a Business path would be finance, marketing, management, human resources, healthcare administration, and entrepreneurship. You can obtain a career to be a business analyst, marketing coordinator, financial manager, operations research analyst, or information security analyst. This would require sharp communication, presentation and management skills. You could be kept very busy. All careers for business go differently.

For Sports Medicine, a degree in Sports Medicine would prepare you to be an athletic trainer, exercise physiologist, recreational therapist, high school teacher, or coach. Athletic trainers focus on preventing, treating, and rehabilitating athletic injuries, while exercise physiologists develop exercise regimens to improve strength and function. Recreational therapists use activities like swimming and dance to enhance mental and physical health. It's a very active, physical and mental career and you'd be active all the time, depending on the exact career you choose. If you go for a Masters Degree in Sports Science or another clinical field, you could prepare to go into clinical roles as a physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or occupational therapist. So this subject can mean choosing the Bachelor Level careers or the Masters level careers.

It's difficult to choose when you love both Business and Sports Medicine, but that's because you need to be more informed about careers. You will need to choose a specific career first before you know what to major in. Give yourself time. If you don't want to give yourself a gap year to further explore which career is for you, you can start college as an undeclared major and take the General Education Required courses at first. College is expensive and time consuming and one of its' main purposes is to prepare you for a career, not to just major in something you think you like.

To get an idea of the work, it would be great to volunteer at a local business or at a gym or your local Department of Health. This can help you see and hear what the work is all about. But do not worry about this - you will pinpoint a career and know exactly what to major in. I have left links below that have some informative videos about both the Business and Sports Medicine careers that you may find useful in helping you become more informed. It's great that you are exploring between the two. Think of how you want your work life to be in the future and how much college you are interested in attending.

Your state also has colleges that offer Sports Management which would be like a combination of your two favorites. For Sports Management, look into Mount St. Mary’s University, Cecil College, Bowie State University, and Coppin State University. The sports management programs offered at these colleges prepare students for careers in the sports industry.

There's a lot to explore to make a decision and I hope that this is helpful for a start. Best wishes !
