Hi Emmanuel,
Congratulations on passing your matric with a diploma pass. It is great that you want to become a teacher! South Africa needs good teachers.
To become a teacher, you are going to need a bachelors degree in education (B.Ed.) or a bachelors in a school subject followed by a post-graduate teaching diploma.
You would specialize which of the following grade levels you would want to teach:
Foundation Phase: (±5 – 9-year-olds): Grades R – 3
Intermediate Phase: (±10 – 12-year-olds): Grades 4 – 6
Senior Phase: (±13 – 15-year-olds): Grades 7 – 9
Further Education and Training (FET) Phase: (±16 – 18-year-olds): Grades 10 – 12
In Mpumalanga, the School of Early Childhood Education at the University of Mpumalanga offers a program for foundation phase teachers. For other programs you would need to attend a university in a different province.
Now, for most bachelor programs at university, you would need a bachelor pass in matric. Alternative paths would be to obtain a Higher Certificate in Education before you apply to a bachelors program or "upgrading" your matric to a bachelor pass.
So, you'll need to make some inquiries with universities if and how you can get into an education program with a diploma pass in matric, i.e. how you can "upgrade" your matric to a bachelors pass or get obtain a Higher Certificate in Education. They would be in the best position to give you the correct information for their school.
I hope this helps! All the best to you!
