Hi Jimmy! You're doing great by starting with the basics and looking into a business analyst career.
To become a strong entry-level data analyst, concentrate on:
Key skills: Learn SQL (joins, CTEs, aggregations), Excel, and Power BI/Tableau. Focus on turning data into useful business insights.
Projects: Create 3–5 practical projects using Kaggle or public datasets, like sales analysis or customer behavior. Clearly define the business question, insights, and recommendations.
Experience: Seek student assistant or research roles on campus in areas like Admissions or Finance to help with data cleanup, reporting, or dashboards.
Portfolio: Keep a tidy GitHub and a simple portfolio site with project descriptions, dashboard screenshots, and clear explanations of your process.
Helpful resources:
SQL: LeetCode, SQLBolt, Mode SQL Tutorial
Power BI: Microsoft Learn, YouTube (Guy in a Cube)
Projects/Data: Kaggle, data.gov
Community: LinkedIn, Reddit (r/dataanalysis), Career Village
Stay consistent, focus on making a business impact, and apply early to internships and entry-level jobs—even if you don't meet all the requirements.

Perfection comes with expeience. I started at IBM with no experience or training and have had a succesful IT career. Many have started at the bottom, so find some mentorships at local pysical tech companies.
Look up Data Analyst jobs and copy the company phone numbers andthen make some calls to either HR. You got to do the work and online comms are too impersonal. At your age personality can get you hired if its not arrogant but competant. Dont expect to be perfect for a while, but you will eventually get there. Focus! Arrogance breed mistakes (never forget this)
