Gaining skills such as data engineering, statistics and data querying might become essential with time.

Power BI certifications are still very valuable. Even though I mainly work with Oracle Analytics, knowing Power BI has been a big help because many clients use both. It's important to have technical skills, but to really stand out, you should also understand the data you're working with. Being able to find answers is great, but being able to ask the right questions makes you even more valuable.
As you learn Power BI, use data that interests you. There are excellent open-source data sets available, like those from the City of New York (https://opendata.cityofnewyork.us/), which can be a great starting point. I often use such data sets to create impressive demos for clients, showing both the product and my understanding of their data needs.
I've been in IT for 30 years, and I still pursue new certifications. Learning new technologies isn't just for beginners. I always tell students that the best skill in consulting is the ability to learn, because what you'll be doing in the future may not even exist yet!

My advice would be to not stick with a particular tool. You will see various organizations using different tools for data visualization and depending upon where you are landing or getting selected, the tool may be different. However no harm in learning a particular tool and then expand to others.
In todays world of AI, tool is irrelevant and knowledge on data management is more important than a specific tool.
