What high school path should I take if I plan to pursue a career in astronomy? 'Tis the season I start to decide what high school classes I want to take. (lol.) I am in Earth Science already and plan to take Biology in my freshman year. If anyone has any tips that would be helpful, that would be great! thanks!

If you are an astronomer, advice would be much appreciated!

Hello,

Check your local museums or planetariums for opportunities, including externships, volunteer positions, or programs to gain additional exposure. I would also recommend taking the following classes as they are critical in the field of astronomy if offered at your school: Physics, Calculus (obviously Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calc as they are prerequisites for Calculus), Chemistry, and Computer Science. Although you will likely have to take them again in college, having the foundation of these courses will help you when you have to take them in college.

You have it covered but joining an astromy club or better yet, starting on at the school. That will shine on your resume for college.
