To become a plastic surgeon specializing in breast surgery, you start by becoming a medical doctor. First, finish high school and then go to college on a pre-med track. You can major in anything, but many choose subjects like biology or chemistry because they match med school requirements. In college, your grades, MCAT score, clinical experience, and research are important for getting into medical school.
Medical school takes four years. The first two years are mostly classroom and lab work, and the last two involve clinical rotations in hospitals. After graduating, you apply for a plastic surgery residency, which is very competitive. You can either go straight into an integrated plastic surgery residency or do a general surgery residency first, then plastic surgery. Residency usually lasts about 6–7 years, where you learn reconstructive and cosmetic procedures, including breast surgery.
After residency, many surgeons choose to do a fellowship to further specialize, like in cosmetic surgery or breast reconstruction. Once you finish, you get board certified and can practice as a plastic surgeon, focusing on breast surgery if you wish. It's a long journey, but if you enjoy science, helping patients, and working with your hands, it can be very rewarding. If you want, I can also share tips on what to focus on in high school to prepare for this path.

Imagine this like a long school journey.
If you want to become a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast surgery, here’s how it works:
Step 1: Do well in school
First, you need to be good at:
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
These subjects help you understand the human body.
Step 2: Go to medical school
After secondary school, you go to medical school (this is where doctors are trained).
This usually takes about 6 years
You learn how the body works
You learn how to treat sick people
At the end, you become a medical doctor.
Step 3: Learn to be a surgeon
After medical school, you don’t start surgery immediately.
You do housemanship (training in a hospital)
Then you apply to learn general surgery
This takes several more years
Here, you learn how to operate safely.
Step 4: Specialize in plastic surgery
Now you choose plastic surgery.
You train under expert plastic surgeons
You learn how to repair and shape parts of the body
This training is very long and careful
Step 5: Focus on breast surgery
Finally, within plastic surgery, you can focus on breast surgery.
This can include:
Breast reconstruction (helping after illness or injury)
Cosmetic breast procedures
You become very skilled in that one area.
Important thing to know
This journey takes many years (often 12–15 years), but:
You save lives
You help people feel whole again
It’s worth it if you truly love medicine ❤️

Most of the time, plastic surgeons don't just specialize in breasts. They often do everything but maybe you can market yourself as a specialist in breasts when you finish training.
First, you need to go to medical school:
4 years high school
4 years college
4 years medical school
internship/residency in plastic surgery--not sure of the length of time but may be 6 years
I believe it's very difficult to get into plastic surgery. Good luck
