What are some steps I can take to increase chances of admission at Georgia Tech?

I am currently a high school senior at a public high school in Atlanta, GA. So far, my SAT scores, GPA, Transcripts, and AP scores are high. I'm also in a school acapella club, do choir, and have been doing Academic Bowl for the past 3 years. This coming school year, I am going to lead my school's Academic Bowl and Math Club. However, I have only taken 4 AP's, and I am only going to take 1 AP and 2 Dual Enrollment classes (College English and Multi-variable Calculus) this coming year. Also, besides doing some service hours during Service Day, my service record has not been exactly the best. What can I do right now to help increase my chances of admission at Georgia Tech?

While I may not be able to speak to Georgia Tech's admissions criteria specifically, I can provide a few tidbits to give yourself the best chance at admissions.

Know the school's core principles and make sure you align to those principles in your essays. The program you are applying to, wants to know why you are applying to it and why you are a good fit for their program.

Do your homework. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of the program, and clearly articulate how your goals align to the strengths of the university.

Do some brainstorming and have a good idea of what you want out of your education. What are your goals? What is the end state upon graduation, and how can Georgia Tech help you reach that end state?

Volunteer based on your passions. Differentiating through volunteering is clearly evident when you write authentically about your volunteering story. Volunteering for the sake of padding volunteer hours I feel doesn't help. Tell a story to the admissions board. Make sure your volunteering is aligned with your vision and objective.

Grades. This is given.

Take classes at Junior colleges in high school to not only get college credits but perhaps a weighted GPA. Do well in those classes.

Prepare your references. Make sure their recommendations align with your goals and objectives, and the story you are telling to the university.

A well rounded, cohesive, goal oriented application gives you the best chances of admissions, assuming you have the grades and scores. All your experiences, essays, recommendations should tie together into one cohesive package.

Best of luck!

Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer. When you are interviewed, know that they are mostly looking at your personality and your ability to make the school proud. Your grades, test scores, documented volunteering, essay, etc. will get you a foot in the door, let them know YOU in the interview, so be yourself, but be prepared to be your best, positive, humorous and engaging self.
