Hey Miguel,
I think it’s really awesome that you’re interested in becoming a mechanic! Being a mechanic is an important and special job. Not everyone can do it. It takes a certain kind of thinking and problem-solving skills to figure out how machines work and how to fix them.
First, you need to be curious. A good mechanic always wants to know how and why things work. You also need patience, because sometimes fixing things can be hard. You might feel frustrated or stuck. That’s normal. But if you really enjoy it, it won’t feel like just a job, it will feel like something fun that you like to do. It is very rewarding.
Being a mechanic is important because people depend on their cars every day. When something breaks, they really need help. Fixing someone’s vehicle can make their life a lot easier and less stressful.
If you want to get started, begin with small things. You can work on a bicycle, learn how to fix a chain, or take apart a lawnmower engine (with an adult helping). Try to understand how each part works and why it’s there. That’s how you build your skills.
When you get older, you can take auto shop classes in school if they offer them. You can also learn by reading, watching educational car shows, and practicing on your own vehicle someday. After training and experience, you can even become ASE certified, which means you’ve proven you really know your stuff.
I started my own repair business when I was 33 years old, and I’ve been doing it for five years now. I love it because I get to help people, fix problems, be honest with customers, and even make my own schedule. It’s a great career if you enjoy working with your hands and solving problems.
If you stay curious, work hard, and don’t give up when things get tough, you can absolutely become a mechanic one day.
I truly wish the best for you Miguel stay positive and stay focused, discipline, and determination are key elements to getting where you wanna be in life.
Thank you for listening

"Becoming a mechanic today is about more than just turning bolts; it’s about mastering computers and electronics. In California, you have three main doors: High School ROP (the best start), Community College (the best value), or a Trade School (the fastest route).
If you want the most security, look into Registered Apprenticeships. You’ll earn a paycheck (starting around $18–$25/hr) while you learn, and if you get into a union-sponsored program, you'll have the kind of benefits and pension that help build long-term financial independence. My advice? Get your ASE certifications as soon as you can—it's the best way to make yourself 'layoff-proof' in this industry."
