If I were to become a storywriter, what would I need to do in terms of getting my idea out there? Especially if said idea is for an animated show.

Hi Arihanna, becoming a storywriter, especially for an animated show, is a creative and exciting career path, and the first step is to start writing consistently by developing your ideas into full scripts, outlines, and story bibles that showcase your characters, world, and plot structure. You'll want to study the craft by reading books on screenwriting and storytelling, watching animated shows you admire and breaking down how their stories are structured, and taking any writing or film classes your school offers to sharpen your skills. Once you have a solid concept for your animated show, create a pitch package that includes a logline, a synopsis, character descriptions with visual references, and at least one or two sample episode scripts so that anyone you present it to can clearly see your vision. Networking is also a huge part of getting your idea out there, so start building connections by joining online writing communities, attending local workshops or events in San Francisco, and engaging with creators on platforms like Twitter, Instagram, or Discord who work in animation and storytelling. You can also start gaining visibility by sharing your work publicly through platforms like Wattpad, Medium, or even creating a YouTube channel or social media page dedicated to your story's development, which shows industry professionals that you're serious and already building an audience. Another great route is to look into internships or entry level positions at animation studios like Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Netflix Animation, or smaller indie studios where you can learn the industry from the inside while working toward pitching your own projects. The animation industry values unique voices and fresh perspectives, so the fact that you already have an idea you're passionate about puts you ahead of many people who are still figuring out what they want to create. Keep writing and keep dreaming!
