Hi Victoria! I'm not in the veterinary field myself but I do understand what the vet path involves by searching online. To become a licensed veterinarian, you generally need about 8 years of schooling after high school: 4 years for an undergraduate degree (often in biology, animal science, or chemistry, plus vet school prerequisites), followed by 4 years in veterinary school to earn your Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. After graduating, you'll need to pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE), and some states require extra exams. If you want to specialize in areas like surgery, cardiology, or exotic animals, you'll need to complete an internship and residency, which adds another 1 to 3 years. From my experience with long education journeys, each step builds on the last and the time goes by faster than you expect when you're passionate about the subject. Applying for scholarships and fellowships can also help with costs, so it's a good idea to look into those early. If you want to try out the field first, becoming a veterinary technician takes about 2 years and gives you hands-on experience before committing to the full veterinarian path. I hope this helps!
