What are the benefits and downsides of becoming a veterinary technician instead of a veterinarian, other than the money difference?

I plan on going to vet school, but I'm wondering if I should become a vet tech instead, as it takes much less school, time, and money.

What are some important things to know when entering or thinking of entering large animal veterinary medicine as a technician?

I’ve also noticed that many large animal veterinarians tend to work independently when attending farm calls. Is it common for technicians to assist them, or is it more of a solo role? I’d love to hear any tips or insights about what to expect in this area of veterinary work! #Fall25

What is the hardest part about being a Veterinary Technician?

I am planning on going to COCC for their Vet Tech program. I have a huge passion for animals but I am curious what the hardest part of the job is as I'm sure there's a lot. The people I have spoken with about it all seem to love their jobs but I want to understand better some of the hard ships that come along with being a CVT.

How competitive is the application process for an ultrasound technician, and what could make me stand out when applying How many scans does a typical tech make in a day? #Spring25 ?

Im a sophomore at Western Texas College and I plan to transfer to Weatherford College next semester, my original degree plan was applied science in agriculture because I wanted to go into the animal industry however I've though long and hard about switching my majors and have decided that getting my degree in applied science of diagnostic medical sonography would fit me better. However I still think about and wonder if their are positions in the animal industry for ultrasound techs?

How do you stay motivated while pursuing a demanding degree?

For context, I come from a low-income background and am pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine. I know that this career path is difficult in terms of coursework and requires many years of schooling. I am transferring from a Community College to a 4-year institution this fall, with veterinary school following afterward. As I am transferring into such a specific major so my academic pathway requires at least 2.5 years, with the addition of taking Summer and Winter classes, with veterinary school being 4 years. My financial background also sets me back in struggling to pay for school and likely needing to work full time, which hinders my studies. Veterinary school is noted to be very competitive, and most people get rejected in their first year of applying. I am trying to stay optimistic throughout the hardships and also want to make the most of my time in college. Overall, how do you stay motivated in such a difficult career path while also balancing personal life, work, and getting involved on campus? #Spring25

What should I do if I don't know what I want to be yet but still have the chance to study more in high school?

I'm not sure what I want to be yet, but I still have 3 years ahead of me in high school. I don't want to take the wrong courses, and all that...? I love healthcare, counselling, animals, not so much math and chem.

I have a lot of questions?

I have a few questions 1. I applied at the Vetco mobile vaccine clinic as a customer advisor. Over the phone, the recruiter asked me to come to the location for a tour of the facility. When I went, she showed me how everything was set up and said that she would send me the offer letter that same day or later that week. My first question is, I haven't gotten the offer letter yet, how many days should I wait until I send a follow-up email asking about the offer letter? 2. If time does pass, how should I format the email to not seem pushy or desperate. 3. Does working at this clinic count as veterinary hours needed for Veterinary school? and how should I keep track of these hours?

Has working in the vet field affected your mental health?

I know that working in the vet field can decrease a person's mental health. Some people want to blame you for issues that come up with their pets, and we lack resources compared to human medicine. Often, the vet field has to work longer hours with a limited number of people working in the field. Do you sometimes find yourself becoming burnt out or feel your mental health taking a toll from the issue you face?

Can I still be a vet assistant after graduating vet tech degree class?

I’m currently studying to be a vet tech after graduating vet assistant. I want more education, but I also enjoy being able to help others not fall behind with extra tasks that can be annoying to deal with when the techs have other things to do. There are some things I want to do such as blood draws, but I also want to stay as a vet assistant. Thoughts?

Can I still become a vet assistant if I go through a vet tech program ?

At first, I wanted to be a veterinary technician. However, I've decided to become a veterinary assistant instead. I am having trouble finding community colleges that offer vet assistant programs. Some universities offer these programs. However, I must attend community college because I need a fourth year of math. The community colleges I'm finding only offer vet tech programs. Can I still become a vet assistant if I go through a vet tech program? Can I benefit from a vet tech program if I only want to become a vet assistant? I understand that I can become a vet assistant with a high school diploma however, I would like to have some education.
