How can I prepare myself not only academically but also emotionally to face the realities of healthcare and what does it take to build a resilience to it without losing empathy?
I'm 17 years old and about to graduate high school on a career path that is entirely new to me. Everything has always went smoothly for me academic wise and that an area that I've always succeeded in but I don't know how I'll do when faced with the emotional side. I've grown up taking care of people which is partly my motivation in this path but they've all been people that I was familiar with.

When entering your chosen career path especially dealing with the public I believe that empathy is an essential skill when serving others. Be prepared to meet people where they are some will be easier to connect with than others and that is ok. Sometimes those who you are serving may be upset and lash out it’s important to not take it personally, they don’t know you on a personal level the are frustrated with the circumstances or situation. Simply because something is new and doesn’t come easy when you genuinely put forth the effort to succeed it will be so worth it.
