Your resume at this stage really starts with your grades. College programs want to see that you can handle both academics and athletics, and strong grades show a solid foundation and discipline.
From there, focus on getting exposure. Attend college camps and consider joining a travel team that competes in tournaments where college coaches are actively recruiting. If it makes sense, playing up a level can also help— it naturally challenges you and can increase visibility.
Start reaching out to college coaches early. Share your academic info, resume, and any athletic highlight videos so they can see you in action. You can also invite them to games or send periodic updates with recent performances. The goal is to stay consistent and visible so your name and face become familiar over time.
I also say this from experience as a former collegiate assistant softball coach, where I worked closely on the recruiting side. Seeing it from that perspective really showed how important consistency, communication, and visibility are in the recruiting process.
Overall, your grades are the base of your resume right now, and these additional steps help build your presence as a student-athlete. It’s never too early to start putting yourself on coaches’ radar and creating opportunities for them to evaluate you.
