Hi Christian, Animation majors drop down from various reasons. Most common ones form the top of my head are:
1 Employers value animation Portfolios than degrees.
Employers prefer seeing your portfolio work showcasing your skills rather than see whenever you graduated from an art school. Because even though you learn those skills, and techniques through your classes your portfolio is where to show that off. However everyone with the grit and discipline could also have a portfolio worth getting hired for. Entering my next point.
2 Some people would rather teach themselves animations rather than spending thousands per semester
Theres multiple tutorial videos on YouTube, so naturally theres people learning how to use certain programs and how to animate on their own, so most people would see this as an opportunity to pursue another path while teaching themselves animation, saving some money in return.
3.Animation is not for the weak.
The harsh reality of anyone wanting to animate is just the facts that you’re going to be used to work on for multiple hours, be underpaid, and have to go from one job to another. And that ignoring the fact that it is SUPER hard to get your foot in the door as it is already.
So yes those are a few reasons why some students get discouraged on pursuing another animation degree. But of course whenever you drop out or not is up to you, if animating makes you happy and you want to be a professional working for a company, freelance, or produce your own content, well I say go for it.
