Hi Cadence!

Although I never majored in music production officially, I do have courses that I took online and at the Trebas institute of music and at Metal Worx.
You have a wide variety of courses you can take, depending on what you want to focus on.
If you want production, you will touch on all aspects, from composition, to arrangement, to engineering (the tough logical part).
Take courses online - there are free ones! Cubase offers them.
Best of luck in your endeavour

Jose Carlos’s Answer

Hey there Cadence!

I majored in music production and work full time making music for ads.

The classes you take will depend on the college you attend. Some colleges only offer sound engineering so you don’t take many music theory or composition classes.

Some colleges like Berklee offer a variety of music production majors. I majored in contemporary writing and production where half the courses are music theory and composition and the other half are music tech courses.

There are many options out there but generally speaking and depending on the program you will most likely take courses that cover music theory, studio technology, recording techniques, MIDI &virtual instruments, Mixing, mastering and more.

I suggest checking out different programs and what they offer and see if they align with what you want.

Best of luck!
