As a Sociology major what career path did you go into that you felt fulfilled and that without this major I couldn’t have found or would be able to be in this career?
I am currently a junior and I’m majoring in Sociology, I’ve changed my major a few times and just get this was right for me. I’m no longer eligible for financial aid and have to pay out of pocket for school and as a first generation Mexican American I just need guidance that continuing my education is worth it.

Hey Elizabeth 👋🏼 First and foremost, good for you for sticking with your education under challenging circumstances.
I can say that my sociology degree absolutely felt worth it and set me up for longterm career growth/success. I specifically decided to focus on social determinants of health work while at school and immediately after -- looking into how someone's income, access to food, ability to maintain stable housing, etc. ultimately informs their health outcomes! Sociology introduced me to that area of study/work, and with that interest, I was able to find a tech company working to implement social care networks between food pantries, housing shelters, government agencies, and so forth.
I've stuck in technology since, implementing systems for macro-level change that connect US citizens to government benefits and local non-profits to make their lives better! My initial study of social structures and social policy gave me such deep appreciation for how societies operate; I love being able to implement systems to improve them now.
Best of luck in your (potentially) continued study and growth after!

Sociology provides access to opportunities that most individuals are unaware of. This major can lead to a variety of rewarding jobs, including social work, nonprofit administration, human resources, public policy, community organizing, UX research, and diversity and inclusion work, all of which require a thorough grasp of people and systems. What distinguishes sociology is that it trains you to spot patterns in society that others miss, making you valuable in nearly any subject. As a first-generation student, investing your own money represents a significant sacrifice and demonstrates genuine commitment. Critical thinking, research, communication, and understanding human behavior are all transferable talents.
