Is it really true that grades only matter until 9th grade.

There isn't one single "most important" grade in school, but I would say that grades are important throughout all of high school. Colleges look at your academic performance over multiple years, so it's important to build strong study habits early and stay focused on your academics from 9th grade through 12th grade. While 9th grade can set the foundation, it is definitely not true that grades only matter until then.
That said, colleges are looking for more than just good grades. They want to see that you're a well-rounded student who is involved in activities outside the classroom and is making a positive impact in your community. This can include volunteer work, clubs, sports, leadership roles, part-time jobs, internships, or other activities that reflect your interests and commitment. My advice is to focus on doing your best academically while also pursuing experiences that genuinely interest you. The combination of strong academics and meaningful involvement outside of school will help you stand out and, more importantly, help you grow as a person.

I agree with the other responses, I am in 11th grade right now and I think 11th grade especially is important because that is the year of ACT's or SAT's which can be very important depending on your future and where you are wanting to attend school. 12th grade year is typically very easy unless you take on more classes so it should be easy to get good grades that year. I think that if anything grades matter more during and after 9th grade because of the harder tests and your GPA and needing those to get into a good college or any other schooling, but it can also show you are a hard worker as well.

I'd say each grade is important in it's own way. In terms of complexity/the ones colleges look at most I would say is 11-12th grade because those are the most recent and people usually take SAT or ACT in 11th and apply for colleges then. But 12th is also important because schools want to see that you're still doing well and you didn't just slack off after you got accepted into a college etc.

This is not true, the grades you receive across your accumulative years of high-school all add up. Not to mention, it is important that you keep yourself productive in order to receive good execution for when you are preparing to take the ACT or SAT. I understand that it may be difficult to keep yourself motivated, but you've got this! Keep diligent and pretend as if every year is the most important year. There is no such thing as a "one and done" situation, but don't let that stress you out. Be casual and remember to balance your grades as well as your hobbies.

Hi Abraham,
In my opinion, 11th & 12th grade is the most important. It's the last full year colleges and scholarship committees see before you apply, your GPA and test scores from that year carry the most weight, and it's when most scholarship applications open

I think grades are important, but not as crucial as people make it out to be. There's kids that failed high-school and they graduated. Only college and trade school grades matter.

No. Colleges will mainly look at your grades when you are in high school since it is the closest to when you are going to graduate. The colleges may look at your education pre high school but I would say that it is highly unlikely.
