Hi Amelia,
You don't need to be a math whiz or a style expert to become an architect. What matters is understanding how things work and knowing about design through history. Taking design courses at your community college, especially in model making, can be really helpful. It teaches you how things fit together and gives you great material for your college applications.

You should enjoy life! You are in 7th grade, and as they say, the world is your oyster. You have plenty of time to worry about becoming an architect. Since you already know what you want to do, I know you will be very successful in achieving your goal. But for now, take every opportunity that comes. Volunteer with your friends and family, maybe for an organization that does things related to architecture. Job shadow if you can find someone you know who will let you work alongside them for a day or two. Talk to people! This is so important, and I think people forget the value of connections. If you know someone who is an architect, ask to sit down with them and just talk and take notes. Find out what they do every day, what degree (if any) they have, where did they learn, etc. Soak up every bit of information you can to make sure it's what you want to do, so when the time comes to start working or choosing your path after high school, you will already know what you want to do.
As far as what you need to know, you will learn everything you need to know in high school, college, and on the job training. I wouldn't worry about things you need to know yet.
Good luck! You are going to do great, but don't forget to enjoy life right now!

Yes, math is important for architecture because architects use geometry, measurements, and problem-solving when designing buildings. However, you don’t have to be a math genius. Focus on doing well in your math classes and ask for help whenever you find a topic challenging.
You should also develop your creativity by drawing, sketching buildings, or using beginner design software. Pay attention to different architectural styles, visit interesting buildings, and think about why they were designed the way they were. Taking art, computer, and science classes in high school will also help prepare you.
Join some art or design clubs, entering architecture or engineering competitions, and building a portfolio of your drawings and projects. Reading books or watching videos about famous architects and sustainable design can also expand your knowledge.
Most importantly, stay curious and keep practicing. Colleges look for students who are academically strong, creative, and passionate about architecture. By building good study habits, improving your math skills, and exploring design now, you’ll be well prepared when it’s time to apply to architecture programs.
