I am a grade 7 and I want to be an archtect. What should I do befor I go to college?

I heard that I have to be good at math and learn styles and stuff. Is that true?

You should enjoy life! You are in 7th grade, and as they say, the world is your oyster. You have plenty of time to worry about becoming an architect. Since you already know what you want to do, I know you will be very successful in achieving your goal. But for now, take every opportunity that comes. Volunteer with your friends and family, maybe for an organization that does things related to architecture. Job shadow if you can find someone you know who will let you work alongside them for a day or two. Talk to people! This is so important, and I think people forget the value of connections. If you know someone who is an architect, ask to sit down with them and just talk and take notes. Find out what they do every day, what degree (if any) they have, where did they learn, etc. Soak up every bit of information you can to make sure it's what you want to do, so when the time comes to start working or choosing your path after high school, you will already know what you want to do.

As far as what you need to know, you will learn everything you need to know in high school, college, and on the job training. I wouldn't worry about things you need to know yet.

Hi Amelia,

You don't need to be a math whiz or a style expert to become an architect. What matters is understanding how things work and knowing about design through history. Taking design courses at your community college, especially in model making, can be really helpful. It teaches you how things fit together and gives you great material for your college applications.
