If you're a student at a college or university with a medical school or hospital, you're in a great spot to start. Try emailing doctors through your school email to introduce yourself and ask if you can shadow them. Share your goals and interests in your email.
You might not hear back from everyone, but it only takes one positive response to get started! Once you're in, you can meet more doctors and expand your network for more shadowing opportunities. This approach works for different specialties too. Sometimes, starting with a nurse can lead you to a doctor.
Stay open to possibilities, find ways to get started, and then enjoy learning as much as you can!

It can be very difficult to shadow physicians, in part because of HIPAA laws (patient privacy...). Many hospitals charge a fee to those who would like such experiences to cover administrative costs related to doing background checks and such. You almost certainly will need to sign documents that confirm you understand, and will abide by, the laws. It may be easier to find a physician or medical group in a clinic, rather than in a hospital, willing to allow you to follow doctors around to learn about their work.
You do have several hospitals within an hour's drive where you can inquire about opportunities.
Please note that even if it proves difficult to shadow a physician or two, they may allow you the opportunity to shadow a nurse, a respiratory therapist, a physicial or occupational therapist, and ED tech... and if you can do that you would see how physicians interact with those roles and their patients from a different perspective.
Also consider writing a list of questions you have about being a physician, and write letters to some physicians in your area (perhaps surgeons, ED doctors, primary care doctors, specialists...) to request a short phone call to answer your questions. Most physicians I know are super busy, yet might well agree to a 15-30 minute interview in order to help a future physician. You can call the local county medical association or State medical association. They can often help you find willing physicians.

Go to your local hospital. Ask directions to the volunteer office. If there is no one in the office, look for the phone and usually there are instructions on how to connect to the volunteer coordinator. At the very least you will learn the work hours of the volunteer coordinator so that you can leave a message asking for an appointment. Before going, think about what you want and write a checklist so that you do not forget everything you want to know about volunteering and possible positions.
You may not be able to shadow a physician, but you might be able to shadow the physicians prep nurse or one of the techs.

Hi there! Volunteering is a fantastic way to get experience in the field you love. If the perfect opportunity isn't available right now, don't worry. Joining the organization in any role is a great first step. You can work your way up to shadowing a physician. Check out the volunteer options at Manchester Memorial Hospital here: https://www.echn.org/careers/volunteering-opportunities/

Hi there! I would suggest going in-person to local hospitals, clinics, and community healthcare centers to introduce yourself and ask about shadowing a physician at their practice. If this is not an option for you, there is virtual shadowing that can provide insight into the medical field. "PreHealth Shadowing" offers free zoom sessions with providers from different specialties. You can also watch previously recorded sessions. At the end, you complete a quiz and receive a certificate of completion. Hope this helps!

Many hospitals offer formal internships or observership programs, which usually just require an updated CV and a strong recommendation letter from your school. Look up the 'Volunteer Services' or 'Medical Education' department on local hospital websites to find their specific application steps and get started
