Learning time management is a valuable skill that you'll use throughout your life. I discovered this when I was in grade 7, just about your age. One helpful tip is to make a daily list of everything you need to do, like schoolwork, homework, assignments, and chores. Then, prioritize the list and estimate how long each task will take. This helps you see if you can finish everything in a day or if some tasks need to move to the next day. Start a new list each day, including any unfinished tasks from before. Check off items as you complete them to see your progress.

Sydney’s Answer

Practicing time management in 8th grade is a fantastic way to prepare for high school. Start by keeping a calendar or schedule to track your tasks.

Here are some more tips:

1. Pay close attention in class. This is a great way to understand the material right away and can save you time studying at home.
2. Try planning your week ahead. On Sunday, look at the week ahead and decide the best days to do your assignments or study.
3. Don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it. If an assignment feels tough, asking for help can make things clearer. Waiting too long to ask might make the work take longer than expected.

Take notes - first understand what needs to be done. Take notes in class or at home if you have different responsibilities that all require you to get things done.
Make a list - make a list of what you need to do, and divide the list between "today", "tomorrow", "this week", or "longer term". Sometimes there are longer term tasks that need to be done, but having them on your "today" list can be distracting and counterproductive. Writing everything down can get it out of your head to have space to think about what you need to do immediately. Make smaller tasks for yourself to feel like you can check things off and make progress. Make notes at the end of the day to make sure you can start the following day with a clear direction.
Communicate - if you feel you don't have enough time, communicate and ask for help. Teachers, mentors, family, and friends can all help with prioritizing everything on your plate.

Samantha’s Answer

A lot of people struggle with managing their time when assignments get tough. It says a lot about you as a person that you're interested in finding ways to improve so early in life. An option that works well for me is breaking up assignments into smaller tasks that don't feel as intimidating. So for example if I'm writing a paper, instead of writing the whole thing in one go I'd write the introduction 5 weeks before it's due, the next paragraph the following week, and so on until the paper is done. That way I'm not overwhelmed with having to do everything at once. I hope that helps!

Thank you for your question. Firstly, find a time management tool to help, e.g. Google Calendar, MS Outlook, Phone Calendar, etc.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Put down the time you need to attend classes
2. Assign some time every day on your assignments and projects. Review the material covered in the classes on the day. If you have any question, ask the teacher on the next school day.
3. Make sure you have enough time to sleep. And, do some exercise.
4. You can allocate some time for leisure and friends & family gathering
5. Allocate more time for revision before assessment and start preparation early.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!

Hi Siya,

Try setting aside specific times to work on your assignments. For instance, if you have something due in five days, dedicate 30 minutes to an hour each day to focus on it. Tackling assignments bit by bit makes them more manageable and helps you finish before the due date. This way, you won't feel overwhelmed, and you might even get done early. Remember, it's always okay to ask for help if you need it.

Wow, it's impressive that you're thinking about time management in 6th grade! I agree with Laura Walker's advice. Break big assignments into smaller, manageable parts and work on them bit by bit. Don't wait to start your assignments; begin early and finish early. This way, if you want to make changes, you'll have time to do so.

Hi Siya,

I know what it's like to feel like everything is due all at once! Here are some tips that have helped me:
- Prioritize and plan: are there some assignments that are due tomorrow vs ones due next week? If so, prioritize those ones and then create a day by day plan of what you need to do. For example, if you have a book report due next week, plan to read 1 chapter a day and then give yourself 2 days to write the report and set goals for each day (e.g., finish rough draft on day 1, proofread and finalize on day 2)
- Take a break: it's easy to feel like you have to sit in front of your desk all day to get everything done, but studies have shown that giving yourself a physical break like walking helps you be more productive when you get back to your work. So while it feels like you're losing time by taking a break, you're actually helping yourself in the long run!
- Be resourceful: if you are spending too much time on a question, don't try to just push through it on your own. Asking a classmate, your teacher, or AI will help you free up time.
- Pace yourself: similar to what I mentioned about reading 1 chapter a day, if you do something consistently and pace yourself over time instead of cramming something all at once, it'll feel more manageable and you'll actually learn more!

Begin with dividing large assignments into smaller sections rather than attempting to do everything in one sitting. As little as 20 to 30 minutes devoted to study on a daily basis can be highly effective.

Indeed, time management skills acquired now will certainly pay off in 8th grade and even further down the road since high school becomes much more challenging.
