I am not familliar with the rules in Ireland. But they are most likely similar to France and Germany. You need to check with the government to see what is required. Typically you need to go to school, get a job and pass a state sponsored test. That is if you want to be certified. If you just want to be a cook / chef find a good company with good chefs working there. Work and learn as much as you can. Good companies may also have training programs or school reimbursement. Ask them if or how you can qualify for those benefits.
I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you for your question. I am glad to knos you ha r passion on culinary arts. However, you may need to check the local qualification requirements in Ireland.
Belowcare my suggestions :
1. Watch YouTube and read recipes to learn more cooking techniques
2. Practice more . Practice makes perfect ! Seek feedback from your friends and family on the dishes.
3. Explore the entry criteria of famous culinary schools, eg Le Cordon BLeu, etc.
4 Explore any intern opportunities working in Michelin Star restaurants
Hope this hepis! Good luck!

Chinyere’s Answer

Hi Jevgeni,

If you already have several years of experience working in professional kitchens, you're actually starting from a useful position. Ireland has formal culinary training routes, but practical experience also matters a lot in this industry.

One option is the National Commis Chef Apprenticeship. It's a two-year programme that combines paid, on-the-job training with study and leads to a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Culinary Arts. You need to be employed by an approved professional kitchen to enter the apprenticeship.

There is also a Chef de Partie Apprenticeship, which is a four-year programme leading to a Level 7 BA in Culinary Arts. Relevant industry experience can be considered as part of the entry requirements, so your previous kitchen experience may be useful.

If you're already an experienced chef, I wouldn't automatically assume that you need to start from the beginning. I'd first look at the jobs you're qualified for and speak with the employer about how your existing experience and qualifications would be assessed.

If you're coming to Ireland from outside the EU/EEA, there is another important issue to consider: immigration and employment permission. Chef positions can be eligible for a General Employment Permit when the relevant requirements are met, and the Irish government has a specific checklist for chef employment permit applications. A job offer and the required qualifications, skills, or experience are part of the process.

So, if your goal is to become a chef in Ireland, I'd focus on three things: document your kitchen experience, make sure your qualifications and food-safety training are clearly presented, and check the current employment-permit requirements if you need permission to work in Ireland.

You already have something valuable that can't simply be learned from a textbook: real kitchen experience. The next step is finding the Irish qualification or job level that matches what you can already do and then building from there.

Best wishes!

Joy’s Answer

Having years of experience will get your foot in the door. I think sharing videos of you cooking will be the best route. Once they see you cook they might offer you an internship first then you can work with other chefs and perfect your craft. Create a YouTube channel with a name that will showcase international cooking and you can use LinkedIn to search chefs in Thailand and some job offers may come up.
