Jesse’s Answer

Hey Kalyn,

PR/Strat Comm, Mass Comm, Journalism or Marketing would be some good ideas on the business side of sports. Anything that can help you become a better writer would be great.

Thank you comment icon PR/Mass Communications would be the best route in my opinion. If it's something you don't want to overwhelm you, this would be it. Having a degree in this field would definitely tune you up, and prepare you to become an efficient communicator/ writer. Especially everything being so radical and needing to be politically correct, and having studied this will give you a better understanding of Marketing/Advertising/Journalism/English/Communications Ernesto

Candace’s Answer

The major you should choose depends on what you want to do. Where do you see yourself going with your degree? Seeing as the sport management major is very business oriented, I would suggest something not directed related to business. Communications is a good major, but you can also choose coaching, health, psychology..the possibilities are endless. Just think about what other interests you have and that can form your decision to choose your second major.

Business major.

Having a strong foundation of business knowledge is extremely important to being successful in the sports industry. At the end of the day, sports is a business, and being able to understand how and why decisions are made is key. It will also make you more versatile and attractive as an employee, especially when you are first starting your career. Being able to handle and feel comfortable working in a multitude of different tasks and roles will be extremely helpful.

I would highly recommend taking as many stats classes as you can. The more on the analytical side of the business you can contribute to will make you more marketable for future positions. Good luck!

Bob’s Answer

Business & Law are the traditional paths. But some schools are now offering Sports Management programs; seek those out if you know that's definitely what you're looking for.
