This is what I did. I became a basic EMT at the age of 18. This was my senior year of high school. I went to school in the morning and worked in the afternoon, at the hospital. I worked on the med./surg. floor. I also was the driver of the paramedic ambulance. I soon moved up to tech. in the E.R. I was surrounded by people, who already were nurses, doctors, x ray techs and respiratory therapists. And the list could go on forever. I tell people that want to work in a hospital, or are interested in the medical field: apply for any job in a hospital. If you get hired as a janitor, good! Just sweep, mop and listen. Your foot is already in the door. That’s the most important thing about medicine. Just get your foot in the door. Even if you have to volunteer.
