Karen’s Answer

I absolutely love the career I am pursuing at the moment. Actually I'm pursuing several new careers because I am now retired and have the opportunity to volunteer for various organizations. I spent 30 years at a career in travel management and then corporate training which I also loved. During those years I volunteered to be be involved in many different topics such as a diversity team, meeting management, a care team, etc. I then managed a nonprofit, where as the only staff I had a chance to do it all.

During the last three years, and currently, I assist at a kindergarten, help immigrants learn our language, am a mentor to a woman who was in prison, and write articles for a variety of nonprofits as well as manage my own website on scattering kindness.

Bottom line is choose something that sounds interesting but don't hesitate to make a change if you find something you might love even more.

With every good wish!

Brian’s Answer

I love my career path at the moment. I was not sure of what I wanted to do when I started with Verizon, but with time and using the resources available (mainly talking to senior leadership), it helped me realize what I enjoyed doing and the different career paths available.

Brian recommends the following next steps:

Talk to some professionals (mostly senior leadership) and do your research into what matters most to you.

Ceil’s Answer

I love this question for a lot of reasons, but the main one is the assumption that "at the moment" is a perfectly good guide to a career - it is. You may have many careers in your job life, and if you possibly can, find a way to love the one you're doing when you're doing it.

My career has been helping organizations get the most out of their teams - and that's more than making sure every individual has the right skills and, for lack of a better word, attitudes. There's some magic difference that happens when people come together in groups, and you manage that difference across individuals not one person after another. So it's always exciting, and has let me explore training and communication, technology, and culture. Not bad!

Ceil recommends the following next steps:

Find what you love in a career, don't wait for the career to give you something to love.
