What do I do ?

I have some recipes that I would like to create including different ingredients and my culinary creativity. I would like to take a free months creating and testing these recipes out and hopefully be able to put these on a blog or website. My only dilemma is that I am sometimes unmotivated because I am still in college full time and I also work full time .

Hi Kort,
It sounds to me like you are very motivated by going to college fulltime and working fulltime. That's a heavy load so don't be so hard on yourself. Getting your degree must be important to you and most schools are on quarters or semesters so taking a month off of school, will set you back further than just one month. My suggestion is that you plan for you weekend or off days and try a recipe then. If you plan it and think about the wonderful tasting food you will create, it may motivate you. You could also use your school break time as your creating time. Think about your daily meals, if you cook those, get creative with them and blog them. Maybe create a blog on creative ways to dress up foods you can cook quickly on a budget. Maybe a blog on how to dress up frozen dinners or fast food. Use whatever you are eating today, since you are working full time and going to school full time, I'm sure you are eating things you can cook or buy quickly. There are a lot of people in your same situation, who maybe would love a way to dress up a roasted chicken they bought already cooked at the grocery store or how to transition fast-food french-fries into a masterpiece of culinary delight.

Sabrena recommends the following next steps:

Think about how to maximize the time you have creating something different out of the food you eat everyday.
Try out new ways to dress up a dull burger or cold fries.
Blog yourself trying out those new ways- good or bad and that way to take advantage of all your time not just the recipes that turned out great.

Sheila’s Answer

Hello Kort: I applaud your motivation for working and going to college as a full time student and employee. I did the same back in the day when I was in college, which was very challenging.

In today's technological era where "time is of importance", if you cannot take off for a semester I suggest that you use the technology that you have by video and voice record creating and testing your demonstrations. You could possibly do this whenever you have free time, quiet moments (what's that??). Life experiences are demanding and does not stop. You may not have the bandwidth to go back and complete something that you've started. I'm suggesting that you keep going and find that balance in creating and testing your recipes along the way. We all wish for more time but, the clock will never stop for us. Make use of the time that you have.

There's no right or wrong answer here. I wish you well in finding that balance for creating and testing your recipes. You can do it. I know you can. :)

Best Regards,

~ Sheila

Sheila recommends the following next steps:

Make time to video and voice record creating and testing your recipes. You can always edit and archive it when you're ready for your blob and website
Take small steps by working on one recipe at a time (create, test, video/record, archive for blog and website)

I have done the work full time and college full time. It's not easy! I have found that possibly taking a semester off for say the summer to give your mind and schedule a bit of a break is a great time to try new hobbies and pursue your passions. You have a lot of motivation, otherwise you wouldn't be pushing yourself so hard. I found just trying a new recipe once a week can give you a good start and help shape how you think about your combos and spices.
