I would also suggest tapping into local astronomy clubs to meet fellow enthusiasts. They may have potential networks you can leverage and at the same time, a great opportunity to bond over similar interests. My sister invited me to a recent astronomy meet up and I learned a lot!

Anna recommends the following next steps:

Seek out groups/ meet ups about the topic you're interested in!

Very cool that you're in astromony! I don't know the exact answer but I would consider looking into the following to get some ideas:

  • Look at profiles of people who are doing what you might want to do or learn, and see what they did (where they worked, what skills they developed)
  • Break your interest in astromony down to keywords of specific things within that, that you're interested in working on (e.g. stars, black hole, etc..). Use those key words to then search the regular job search sites for jobs. This will give you an interesting set of potential jobs to look into
  • Find the conference in industry where astronomers go to. Find 3 top ones. Look at the companies who come to these!
  • Look at companies where they might be needing your kind of research - lots of companies might have research departments, from media/entertainment (research for movies - e.g. mythbusters), to education (e.g. the Exploratorium), to more obviously technology (e.g. Google x)
