Nija’s Answer

Hi Peyton,

I hope all is well. Sorry for the delayed response. I really want to respond to your statement. Therefore, I had the opportunity to look on the website of the undergraduate degree in the field of fashion design at Belmont University. It displays the courses that you must take in order to complete the degree program. It sounds like you have difficulty trying to figure out which courses are best for you to take for this degree. It's okay to feel undecided, you are not alone. The next step is for you to schedule an appointment to meet with an academic advisor to discuss about this matter. The academic advisor is there to help you to explore the classes that you need to take in order for you to graduate. Please utilize an academic advisor because they are there to guide and support you in your future academic studies. Again, I encourage you to see an academic advisor immediately. I hope this helps you to move forward in your academic studies. Please keep me posted and let me know what happens. Good luck to you. You are going to do great.

Hi Peyton,

In order to be successful in the fashion designing field, you will need to earn a bachelor’s degree in fashion design. You should consider taking courses in computer-aided fashion design; elements of fashion & design; the history of fashion; textiles; figure drawing, fashion illustration & design; fashion retail, marketing & merchandising and pattern making. For further information, you can refer to these websites below:

1) https://www.bls.gov/ooh/arts-and-design/mobile/fashion-designers.htm

2)https://studylink.com/subjects/fashion-design-courses/

Good luck to you! Continue to reach your goals. Be the best fashion designer that you can be.

Nija recommends the following next steps:

Obtain hands-on learning by participating in an internship or a volunteer program with a design firm, clothing manufacturer, personal stylist or assist in a fashion show.
Keep abreast of the latest trends in fashion designing.
Learn the business, sales and the financial side of fashion designing because you may want to develop your own business.
Continue to be creative and be open to continuous learning.
Think about developing a portfolio to show off your sense of style.
Bachelor's degree programs generally last four years and tend to offer more extensive career training, combining technical coursework with artistic and conceptual instruction. Courses may include fashion drawing, 3-D design, color theory, textiles, Computer-aided design, fashion business and portfolio presentation. Bernice D.
