One other one to consider is caddying at your local golf course/country club. Often these are less formal working arrangements - you may not be paid directly by the club but rather by the players, but the club will help to faciliate and may offer an orientation. Many golfers did this as a job in younger years and like to mentor their caddys, and many courses offer college scholarships to their caddies as well.

Jon recommends the following next steps:

contact your local country club or golf course.

Mr.’s Answer

Joseline R,

As summer is approaching I believe that you are ready to work to gain professional experience early while obtaining funds. What are you interested in? what skills do you already have? what would you like to do in the future that you can start on now? These are some of the questions you should be asking yourself as well as answering. You are allowed to get a work permit in the state of Pennsylvania at 14-15.

As of right now you can apply for McDonald's team member, part time baby sitter and a full time nanny. The other jobs that you can apply for:

That takes a very mature mind to prefer to work at your age and I wish you the best on your journey.

Simeon’s Answer

I would recommend looking into summer camp work. I'm not sure what the hiring laws are in Pennsylvania, but summer camps tend to hire younger workers, so give them a look up. If you can land some work with them, you'll often also be able to get certifications for lifeguard and ropes course work that you can keep doing part time even after the summer.

David’s Answer

Hi Joseline,
First, different stares have different minimum age requirements for employment and how many hours a week you can work. It's usually 14 years of age but make sure to check your state labor law.
Second, where to work? You could try your local newspaper to see if they have any bike routes. Also, small office such as a local insurance salesman or lawyers, maybe they have clerical work or filing you can do. If you have a hobby such as video games, skate boards, or cycling, you can check with local shops to see if they have any openings. Remember just because your 14 doesn't mean they won't hire you but you have to ask for the job. Let them know your passion for the field and that you really want to learn more. Good luck on your job quest!
