Depends what you want to do with the trucking company are you trying to get your CDL through them do you already have your CDL if you want to get your CDL and drive for a company they most likely use you for up to a whole year and they could also pay you up to $500 a week but you do have to team up with another person if you don’t like teaming up with somebody you might have to work for a private company or get your CDL separately which could cost you up to $10,000 so it’s most likely better to work for a trucking company Like US Xpress

Daniel,

My ex-husband managed a trucking business, so I will try to answer this!

The farther away you are going, the more allowances people will make for things like bad weather. But, yes, basically you are supposed to get to the destination "on time." The people scheduling you (usually a "dispatcher") know how long it takes to make the run. So, if everyone else can get from San Antonio to Dallas in 5 hours, and it takes you 8 hours, there will be some explaining to do! You will, of course, have to obey traffic laws, as tickets get costly and can eventually cost you your license. You can also assume that there is a GPS tracking device on the load, as freight theft is very costly.

The other thing you need to consider is that some businesses accept deliveries only during certain hours. So, if they accept deliveries between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., and again from 2 pm - 4 pm, and you get there at 10:15 a.m. - guess what? Yes, you will have to wait until 2. And you might not want to leave and come back, because other trucks will start showing up, and then you will have to get in line behind them.

The truck drivers I have known really enjoyed their jobs! I hope this information has been helpful. Good luck to you!

Kim
