Richard’s Answer
It is rewarding to be able to travel the city ,where I work and live, and be able to say that I helped to build schools and buildings that are important to our society and future. It is also rewarding to see that my work as a brick mason is also contributing to the beauty of my community.

I am not a Mason, however as someone that requires a Mason's help to do anything related- it is a very important trade that has very few people going into it. If you want a career where you will be in high demand ie, get paid well, go for it.

I am not personally a mason - but my father has been before I was born. I had the pleasure of growing up to see all the buildings he's constructed as I drive through our city. It is truly special and an amazing feeling for me. Being in my mid-thirties, I still enjoy being able to tell passenger's "My Dad built that!" As we are in Florida, he has gruesome heat to deal with day in and out - it is not to be taken lightly that it is extremely hard work. He has said though, if this is your choice, you will be a true craftsmen, which are more few and far between - the greatest benefit, to answer, would be to see your work and know that it will most likely last and stand way longer than you and even your future generations to outlive. I see you are in Jersey and hope you would have the availability to join a union - if so, I encourage you to take a look at all available benefit options as with any career choice and change as you grow. Best of luck!!
