John’s Answer

It's hard to give an exact answer for a question like this. There are so many factors like the current job market, country and city you live in, and the exact scientific specialty you're interested in (this can range from biology to physics; you can also work within subfields of those, for example, you'll have different job and pay opportunities if you have a doctorate over a bachelor's degree). I would suggest using a site like Glassdoor (https://www.glassdoor.com/index.htm). Sites like Glassdoor are basically an anonymous form of social media for professionals to discuss salaries and the workplace environment. I would also recommend trying to do a job shadow with someone who works in the field, this would be the best way to learn more about the career.

John recommends the following next steps:

Visit Glassdoor! (https://www.glassdoor.com/index.htm)
Search for your desired job; in this case, "scientist".
Read about other scientist's experiences and see salary ranges.
