Suzanne’s Answer

Hi Peter,

You mention that you are passionate about technology, yet this is a vast field with subspecialties. I recommend that you investigate the varied aspects of technology and find those that really grab your interest. I think it is also very helpful to see which areas might be the most effective in making our world a better place. Having ethics and standards will ensure that the work you do has great meaning for yourself and others as well as keeping your work fresh and exciting!

1. Investigate the possibilities within the field of technology:

2. Look for volunteer opportunities in technology

3. Start looking into the college with best tech programs

Dream big. Work hard. Keep the vision and excitement going!!

Best,

Linda’s Answer

Hi Peter,

Such a great question and there's never one right answer for this. A few thoughts that I'd love to share. First is - don't feel like you need to have "one purpose". There sometimes can be a lot of societal pressure to feel like you must be born with a purpose, and that's just simply not true. Sure there are some who grew up knowing exactly what they wanted to do when they were young, and are doing that today, but I don't think that's the case for most people. Many people today may dabble in different careers, job pursuits, or hobbies.

What you may be passionate about today could change tomorrow, and that's okay!

Think about the things that bring you the most energy and joy. What do you like doing for fun? What do you get excited thinking about? Some are fortunate enough to have the intersection of their job and their passion as one, but some people have their full-time job and their hobbies as completely separate.

The more experience you gain, the more cities, states, and countries you visit, the more people you meet and impact -- all of these life experiences will expand your perspective and your vision. Continue to do what you're doing best, and you will do great as long as you try and are willing to take risks!

Jamie’s Answer

I would recommend looking into internships and shadowing. Also find something that you are passionate about and do some research on positions that you could do. Example - I love solving problems and helping others. I am currently in an operations role and my position lets me do this every day.

Genesis’s Answer

Hi Peter,

Great question! Discovering your purpose at a young age could be very challenging and yet exciting at the same time. During your youth, you have the opportunity to seek all your options available. There are so many great opportunities where you can try different things and get great exposure. Some great experiences to look out for are internships, summer camp jobs, after school curricular activities, shadowing programs, volunteer work, and even part time jobs. You won't know what you love and are passionate about until you go out and try new things and create new experiences. I would also suggest asking yourself what your passionate about, or what interests you. That question answered can help direct you in specific resources that will guide you to the right opportunity.

Hope this advice helps you on your journey.

Good luck,

Genesis

Chris’s Answer

Peter, That is a great question. Most people will go their entire life without knowing what their purpose is. I think that the first thing you would need to do is find something that you are passionate about, I would actually find multiple things that your are passionate about. Then you need to start exploring and finding what your really like. You are young so you have plenty of time. See what gives your the sense of fulfillment, what makes you feel good. If you are doing something that you truly love and it gives you a felling of being complete you have found a purpose.

Hi Peter. You can definitely by determining how you see yourself in the future. What do you love doing? It can be helping people, discovering new things or strategies, being an advocate for specific communities and/or groups. Once you find out what you are passionate about then you can define your purpose.

You are also find your purpose by getting inspiration from people you look up to. It can be your family members, professionals, sports enthusiasts, etc,

Aicha’s Answer

Hi.

I think the youth can find their purpose through just trying new things and seeing how they like them. They could possibly sit down and look at the things they are passionate about and see if there are any occupations that relate to their interests. Also, sometimes when you try new things you see new things that you are interested in that could help you out.

Hope this helps!

Donna’s Answer

Hello Peter,

Great question. I have found after raising 2 sons that purpose and priorities change along the way. Find what you are passionate about now, as you are growing your knowledge in that area, your passions and priorities may change. Go with it. No one expects you to have all the answers at this point in your life. Seek out mentors along the way. Take opportunities to do job shadowing or internships. All this will guide you to where you want to be. Stay open-minded.

Good Luck!
