How rigorous is the path to become a surgeon

When I grow up I want to become a surgeon and I don't want to lose interest in the beginning of that path because it's too hard. I'm willing to persevere and I'm sure I will but still; I'd rather know now so that I can prepare for it. #doctorate-degree

The path to becoming a surgeon is rigorous but prior to entering medical school and is not different than becoming any other kind of physician. ( So do well in high school to prepare for college. You can major in a variety of subjects so long as you take the requisite science courses but it is important to do well so others may be going to the frat party on the weekend and you may need to study. Still it is quite possible to have a reasonable social life. Then one enters medical school and afterwards a surgical residency ( After you become a doctor you work as an apprentice under the supervision of more experienced doctors for a number of years, typically for surgery it is at least 5. At all of these stages it is important to apply yourself as surgeons needs to understand a great deal, and have the manual skills to perform operations etc..
It is challenging but all medical specialties are challenging in their own way, so not insurmountable by any means.
