How are running start credits applied?
I have running start credits from high school and want to know how UNH (univ of New Hamshire) plans on applying them to my college courses. #scholarship #higher-education #college #college-admissions

A quick note! Typically, to have those credits evaluated, you'll need to have an official transcript sent to UNH. UNH then evaluates the coursework to determine whether it is eligible for transfer credit.
Once eligible, the next piece to figure out is where they count toward your degree. For example, let's say your degree requires 120 credits and UNH accepts 6 of your Running Start credits. Those 6 credits can count toward the 120 credits you need to graduate, meaning you would have 114 credits remaining needing to take to earn the degree.
But where those 6 credits apply is important. Depending on the courses you took and your degree requirements, they might fulfill a general education requirements, or electives, or potentially satisfy core courses within your major. UNH will determine how the running credits apply to your academic record.
My biggest recommendation is to talk with your academic advisor early and ask to review your degree audit together. That's an important distinction. Coming into college with credits can change the courses you need to take and potentially give you more flexibility in your academic plan. Understanding exactly where those credits apply will help you and your advisor make better decisions about what you take next.

Hi Madison, great question! It really depends on UNH's policies concerning "equivalent and transferable credits". The best advice I can give you is to contact the UNH Admissions Office and ask them this question directly. If possible, set up a counseling appointment at your high school or at UNH to discuss with a counselor exactly how your start credits will apply; that's a great option, too.
