what does a day in a life of an actuary look like?
I found actuarial science as an interesting major because I am a math person and I noticed that they work with a lot of mathematics. #actuary

Hi Nayelli and everyone else reading this! Even though this is an old thread, I hope to connect with anyone interested in this career.
I'm an actuarial consultant, which means I work with clients like insurance companies, self-insurers, and other fascinating businesses. Actuaries usually work at insurance companies, focusing on tasks like reserving or pricing, as Phillip mentioned. But with the rise of technology and data, actuaries are now needed in other fields too. For example, tech companies like Tesla are creating their own insurance programs for self-driving cars!
In my job, I use a lot of general business skills such as writing emails and attending client meetings, along with technical work. This often involves using Excel, but actuaries also work with programming languages like R, Python, and SQL, depending on their specific role. Some actuaries focus more on data science, which involves more programming. My job includes a lot of business management consulting, so I spend about half my time on tasks like creating PowerPoint slides, attending calls, and writing emails, and the other half on reserving work. Thinking about this career is exciting; it can be both rewarding and interesting!

If you love math this would be a great career for you. I have friends who are doing this. You would usually work for an Insurance company.
