Richard’s Answer

Living at home can be a very good thing, especially in your first year of college when you are trying to figure out your new routine. I lived at home in my first year of college. It was nice to have a comfortable place to live, wash clothes and family to share meals. When I needed quiet time to study, I would go to the college library. This was a good way to get away from the distractions at home and it helped me have good study habits.

Laura’s Answer

I think it is very dependent on your individual preferences, learning methods, and home situation. Living at home is a great way to save some money and you might find there are just as many, or more distractions, living on campus. However, even as a commuter student there are plenty of places for you to study on-campus – labs, study lounges, and the library. I do think that, if possible, it is great to live on-campus to get the full college experience.

Stephanie’s Answer

I think it is important to know yourself and then make that decision, as my best memories are from college and I did not leave at home, It is important to know yourself and be self motivated because there will not be someone there to tell you to do your homework, or to eat, or get enough rest. If you can count on yourself go for it, I needed to prove to myself that I could do it and I did, but also while I did not live at home I did not live overly faraway so it was easy to get home if I needed to and that may have been a security blanket of sorts,. Do not go into living on your own as something that will be easy - but I would say enjoy it and try it.

Andrea’s Answer

It depends on your situation. For me, it was important to be out on my own because it helped me learn a lot of important lessons like how to take care of myself. I don't think I would have had the same experience if my parents had been around because they would have kept preparing my food and helping me out with things.
