Mayble’s Answer

Labor and delivery nurse- you take care of adult mom who is about to deliver. This includes triage, labor process and delivery of baby. You also recover mom in PACU if she had a c section. The she is handed off to the postpartum nurse and you get another labor mom assignment once all teh charting is all done. The NICU nurse is there during delivery to see if the newborn need higher specialized care based on apgar score ratings or if mother is high risk OB patient. If not the nursery nurse or postpartum nurse on mother baby floor will attend to the baby and mother after delivery.

David’s Answer

The NICU nurse also manages and delivers care to the premature or ill infant in the neonatal intensive care unit. This is highly specialized training and as all intensive care unit nurses have a great deal of responsibility in managing care. They work closely with the neonatologist/ nurse practitioner.
