Steve’s Answer

I can highly recommend the Lincoln Electric School located in the Cleveland, Ohio area. It used to be located in Euclid, OH but that was years ago so this school may have moved. Take the MIG, TIG and related welding classes and get your degree/certification. You will be tested on your capabilities on the job site, so take your time and study hard so that you pass the on the job test.

Good luck as you pursue welding as a career.

Brian’s Answer

Welding is a skill that has to be learned mostly hands on. Sure you can sit in a classroom and learn about metallurgy and physics of the processes, but truly understanding is actually doing. Lincoln Electric school is one possibility, as his Hobart Welding School. Since you’re still in high school, I suggest attending like a BOCES welding class. Try it and go from there and when you come out of high school and you’re looking for a career path, you can further it by going to one of the above mentioned welding schools or break into a local trade union where you’re education is free and you get paid to work/learn a trade in addition to welding. I suggest in your area for pipefitters union Local 125 in Cedar Rapids or Local 33 in Des Moines. But don’t stop there, also look into ironworkers union. Both trades offer opportunities to weld.

Best of Luck
