Sophia’s Answer

Hi Anil,

This is interesting question. I suggest seeking out a school that has a major in either media studies or broadcast journalism. I do know UC Berkeley has a field of study that mixes both. Depending on what type of programming you are interested, an emphasis in film/ video production would be beneficial. I would also advise you join clubs in school that relate to tv programing or broadcasting so you can build your experience in the field.

An internship in this field would also be incredibly beneficial and could potentially lead to a full-time position. Large studios/ shows always need show runners or admin interns to help with the smaller tasks behind the camera! I would say seek out one of these positions and work your way up!

Good luck!

Samuel’s Answer

TV Program Management - or Programming - is an art form associated with communications, marketing, language, aitnd technical ability in TV and Video Production. You need to seek out an education that features these things and select a school with good networking attributes. It's through networking that you will remain connected to your peers as they move up the ladder, and through the school, itself, you'll get experience with the technical, artisitic, and language arts needed to succeed on this path. As you move along your path, you may find other passions in the same practice, but based on your initial thoughts, I'd start down looking for a school that can provide you with these four things. A four-year school is good, but there may be very good two-year schools to get started with.

Samuel recommends the following next steps:

Find a school: google some people whose names you see on TV credits and see where they went to school and read up on their histories.
Pursue a similar path
Watch YouTube and other instructional videos on the subject, and read up on the people that you aspire to be like (Wikipedia, Google, LinkedIn, etc.)
