How much commitment should be put into becoming a veterinarian?

I love animals and would die for them! But I want to make sure that this is what I really want to do, help them and care for them. But how committed does one have to actually be into putting all the hard work into this? #veterinarian #veterinary-medicine

That is a great question. I too love animals and think vet science is a noble profession. I think it would be a good idea to volunteer at a local shelter and/or a veterinary clinic to seek an opportunity to shadow a vet and ask questions as well as gain some hands-on experience in caring for animals. As there are many types of vet medicine, I would also recommend you seek out an opportunity to volunteer at a neighborhood vet office and a facility that might treat larger animals (example: equine, bovine) if possible. Also, keep in mind that you will have to complete anywhere from 7-9 yrs of study (possibly more depending on the individual). In my humble opinion, I feel you would need to be committed to not only this area of work but anything you do for which you will earn a living.
