I would argue that chemical engineers have done a lot damage to the planet, above all other types of engineering disciplines. I actually am not in the chemical field anymore because of some acute reactions I had to some of the chemicals I had to work with.

Fortunately, you can choose a path that will be part of a process of restoring the planet, that is where most of the opportunities will be, such as nuclear power, environmental clean up, air pollution and medicine. Your chemical engineering skills can really improve people's life in these areas.
