How many club organizations should I be involved in during college?

I know many universities have a lot of club organizations but how do I pick which ones I should be involved in or not. I want to make my resume look good but I do not want it to seem like I just joined clubs for the extra lettering on my resume. #college #school #student #resume

I totally agree with the previous answers: focus on schoolwork first, and find a major that excites you. Too many students are led to believe that they have to be involved in several different clubs to show they're well-rounded to make potential employers seek them out. Nothing could be further from the truth. You're not paying to go to school to be in clubs; you're not spending 4 years of your life in a school to be in clubs. You're there to do well in your major...so do well in your major. I liked extracurricular activities, myself, but limited my participation to one per semester, unless I was taking more than 15 hours; then it became unmanageable. I suggest no more than one per quarter or semester.

Focus first on school and when you are comfortable with your level of academic achievement, then look into groups. Find out which groups might benefit you when it comes to looking for a job, networking with a diverse group (which represents some parts of the workforce), and offers some of benefits that may help you to achieve your goals.

Ashley’s Answer

First thing I would do is focus on my classes and school work, when you are able to find a flow or balance then I would go for extra activities and clubs.
